Mission: In late 2009 the Louisiana State Government cut Food Bank financing by 4.5 million dollars. As a small food pantry this blog was created to spotlight our community and show the direct effects from such a harsh budget cut.

We work at the Community Center of St Bernard, a food pantry and Community Center 10 minutes outside of New Orleans. We feed around 70 families a day and the number of new people we serve keeps growing. The spiraling economy coupled with the state budget cut to Second Harvest has created empty shelves for needy families.

More people + less food = a big problem.

Billy Brown - Digital Arts Service Corps

I work at the Community Center through a program called the Digital Arts Service Corps, which is basically AmeriCorps but for geeks. Its a year long service position where I try to use technology, social media, and the internet to help further the efforts of a nonprofit. I was placed at the Community Center of St Bernard for my year of service.

There are a lot of really interesting things that happen at the Community Center and I thought this blog would be a good way to reflect on those things and possibly get feedback about those things.

If you have any questions about this blog, the community center, or me - holler at me: billy (at) ccstb (dot) org.
